I'm planning a CPU upgrade because my current Core i5-10600K is starting to struggle in the CPU-heavy games I play. My current system has an RTX 3060 Ti, 16GB of 3200MHz DDR4, an ASUS ROG 750W power supply, and the existing LGA 1200 platform. I'm considering a Core i5-12600K or i5-14600KF so I can keep my DDR4, which would leave more money for a future graphics card. The other option is moving to AM5 with a Ryzen 7 7700X, 7800X3D, or 9800X3D, but 32GB of DDR5 costs about €500 where I live, so I would only consider 16GB at that price. My budget for the CPU, motherboard, and memory is around €1,000. Which platform would make the most sense for gaming and future upgrades?

Before replacing the whole platform, check whether your games are actually CPU-limited at your target resolution and settings. The 10600K paired with a 3060 Ti can still be reasonable, especially at 1440p. If you are seeing low GPU usage, frame-time spikes, or poor minimum FPS, then the CPU upgrade makes sense. Otherwise, a GPU upgrade may provide a larger improvement. Also, adding a second matching 16GB DDR4 module for dual-channel operation is worthwhile if your current memory is a single stick.
AM5 is the better long-term choice if you can find reasonably priced DDR5. The platform gives you a much better upgrade path, and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D would be excellent for CPU-heavy games. With a €1,000 platform budget, you should normally be able to fit 32GB of DDR5 alongside one of those CPUs and a motherboard, but your unusually high local memory prices change the calculation. I would not buy 16GB of DDR5 for a new gaming system if you can avoid it.
If the local DDR5 pricing is really that extreme, an LGA 1700 setup with a 14600KF and a decent B760 DDR4 motherboard is the most cost-effective route. You can reuse your current memory and put the savings toward the graphics card. Just make sure the board has a reasonable VRM and update the BIOS, since 13th- and 14th-generation Intel chips benefit from the latest stability and power-limit updates.
A 14600KF with a Gigabyte B760 Gaming board would cost me about €385, while AM5 would leave me paying roughly €500 for only 16GB of DDR5. The memory pricing here is ridiculous.
That budget is enough for a high-end gaming CPU in many regions, but with DDR5 costing around €500 locally, the practical choice may come down to whether you value a stronger GPU now or a more upgradeable platform later.
