I'm considering the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K for a system that will be used mainly for gaming, along with work such as 3D modeling and rendering. Is it a poor choice at its current price, or does it still make sense compared with newer Intel options and similarly priced AMD CPUs?

The 265K becomes harder to recommend when it gets close in price to CPUs such as the Ryzen 9 9900X or 7900X3D. If the 270K Plus is only slightly more expensive, it may offer better overall value, but a significantly cheaper 265K is not automatically a bad purchase.
It isn’t necessarily a bad processor, but its value depends heavily on local pricing. The Core Ultra 7 250K Plus and 270K Plus are generally considered better-value alternatives, so compare their prices and performance before deciding.
In my area, the 270K Plus costs about $440, while the 265K is around $305. At that difference, the 265K could still be worth considering if its performance meets your needs.
The right choice really comes down to the actual prices where you live. Compare gaming performance, rendering benchmarks, platform costs, and the price of the complete system rather than judging the CPU by its model alone.
