I'm trying to revive an Acer Aspire 5720 from 2007. The operating system installer runs normally from USB, but after installation and rebooting, the BIOS reports that no operating system was found. The BIOS only offers Legacy boot mode and has no UEFI option. I've tried Windows and several Linux distributions, replaced the original drive with a 320GB HDD, and upgraded the memory from 2GB to 4GB of DDR2, but the behavior is unchanged. What BIOS, partition, bootloader, or hardware settings should I check next?

Check the storage controller mode in the BIOS and make sure it isn’t set to RAID. Also verify that the installed drive is selected as the first boot device. Since this system only supports Legacy booting, the disk and installer need to use a compatible Legacy/MBR setup rather than UEFI/GPT.

Check whether the processor is 32-bit or 64-bit. Many current Linux distributions no longer support 32-bit processors, and newer Windows versions may not be suitable either. A lightweight 32-bit operating system or an older supported release may be necessary for this hardware.
