My Apple Account was recently taken over. I no longer use it and the only personal details connected to it are my name and email, but I'm worried the person who stole it could misuse my identity. They appear to be signing in from an iPad while labeling it as an iPhone. The security questions were changed to a foreign language, along with my date of birth, trusted phone number, and password. I can sometimes reset the password, but I'm stopped by the unfamiliar security questions before I can fully access the account. I mainly want the account deleted so I stop receiving daily notifications about changes. Is contacting Apple Support the only option, and can they help even though I can't complete the account verification process?

For any accounts you still control, change the password to a unique one, enable two-factor authentication, review trusted devices and phone numbers, and remove anything unfamiliar. For this particular account, keep records of the takeover notices and use Apple’s official recovery tools rather than repeatedly trying random changes.
If account recovery no longer works, there may be no practical way to regain access or delete the account. Apple has to keep those safeguards strict because otherwise someone could claim ownership of another person’s account and obtain their data. You can still contact official support, but be prepared for them to say they cannot make changes without verification.
Apple generally can’t delete an account or restore access without successfully verifying that you own it. Support can guide you through the official account-recovery process, but they usually can’t bypass the security questions, trusted phone number, or other verification steps.
