I'm using an RX 6700 XT with a Ryzen 5 5600 and am considering a CPU upgrade. Would the Ryzen 5 5800X3D be worth choosing over the 5500X3D for gaming, or is the cheaper chip the better option? The Ryzen 5 5600X3D and 5700X3D are currently priced too high where I live, so I'm mainly deciding between these two models. I'd also consider moving to a newer platform if that offers better long-term value.

The 5800X3D is the more desirable end-of-generation AM4 upgrade, but that doesn’t automatically make it the better purchase today. Buy it only if you want to keep the current motherboard and memory for several more years and the price is reasonable. Otherwise, the 5500X3D is a sensible stopgap, or you can keep the 5600 while saving for a full platform upgrade.
For pure gaming, the 5500X3D is probably the better value if it costs substantially less. The extra cache should help frame-time consistency and performance in CPU-limited games, while the RX 6700 XT may limit the difference at higher resolutions. The 5800X3D is faster overall and has two additional cores, so it makes more sense if you want the strongest possible upgrade without replacing your motherboard and memory.
