I'm looking for a box that lets me connect my desktop PC, laptop, mouse, keyboard, headphones, and monitors. With one button press, the monitors and peripherals should switch to the laptop; with another press, they should switch back to the desktop PC. What is this device called, and what specifications should I look for?

Another option is using monitors with built-in input switching, combined with a mouse and keyboard that can switch between multiple computers. That can work well, but a proper KVM is usually more convenient if you want everything to change with one button.
Remote-control software could let you operate one computer from the other, but it won’t physically switch the monitors and peripherals. It’s mainly useful if the computers are in different rooms or you don’t need direct access to both setups.
You’re looking for a KVM switch. It lets you share your monitors, keyboard, mouse, and other USB devices between two computers. Make sure it has enough video outputs for however many monitors you use, plus enough USB ports for your peripherals.

That sounds exactly like what I need. I’ll make sure to check the number of ports and display connections.
