Is an RTX 5060 and i5-9600K a good combination for 1440p gaming?

I'm planning to upgrade my PC and currently have an RTX 5060, an older i5-9600K, and 16GB of DDR4 memory. I'm happy gaming at 1440p as long as frame rates are solid. Should I replace the CPU and motherboard to reduce potential bottlenecks, and what would be the smartest upgrade path with a budget of around 2,000 AUD?

A 700W power supply should generally be plenty for an RTX 5060 and an i5-9600K, assuming it’s a decent-quality unit and not extremely old. I’d only replace it if it lacks the required connectors, is showing instability, or comes from an unreliable model.

Before replacing the platform, consider upgrading the memory setup. If your 16GB is a single stick, adding a matching module for dual-channel operation could help smooth out performance. Also monitor whether games are using nearly all 16GB, since moving to 32GB may reduce hitching in newer titles.

A newer midrange CPU such as a Ryzen 5 7600 or a Core i5-12400F would be a reasonable platform upgrade, but you’d also need a new motherboard and, depending on the platform, DDR5 memory. With an RTX 5060 at 1440p, the difference may not be dramatic unless you play competitive games at very high refresh rates or run into stuttering.
