What CPU and GPU should I upgrade to for 1440p gaming in WarDogs?

I'm planning to upgrade my gaming PC so it can handle WarDogs properly at 1440p. Right now I'm running a Ryzen 7 3700X on an ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus WiFi motherboard, an RTX 2080 with 8GB of VRAM, and 32GB of DDR4 memory. I believe my power supply is around 750W, although I'll need to confirm the brand and exact model. The case is full-sized, so GPU clearance should not be a major issue. My budget is roughly $1,000–$1,500 for a CPU and graphics card. At 1080p, I could only run the game on very low settings, and it looked awful, so I'd like an upgrade that can deliver a good high-settings 1440p experience. Let me know if any other system details would help.

The game can use a lot of CPU and GPU power, especially at ultrawide or 4K resolutions. A modern high-end GPU paired with a 5700X3D or 5800X3D should make a major difference at 1440p. If you’d rather move to a newer platform, a DDR5-based prebuilt around $1,500 could be another route, but it would require replacing more than just the CPU and GPU.

Before spending the full budget, make sure you actually want to upgrade specifically for this game. If you do, the AM4 X3D upgrade is still a practical choice and lets you avoid rebuilding the entire PC.

That’s fair, but WarDogs checks a lot of the boxes I enjoy in games, so I’m willing to upgrade for it.

A Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D is probably the best way to extend the life of your current motherboard. Pair it with something like an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT for 1440p. Check your CPU cooler before upgrading, since the new processor may need better cooling. Nvidia is also worth considering if you care about DLSS and more consistent support in newly released games, while the 9070 XT may offer stronger value.

I like AMD graphics cards too, but I usually choose Nvidia for the software support and features.

Since you’re already on the AM4 platform, an X3D processor is the most sensible CPU upgrade without replacing the motherboard. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D would pair well with a Radeon RX 9070 XT and should fit your budget. You can keep the 32GB of DDR4 memory.

Thanks, I’ll look into those options.

You don’t need to replace the RAM right now. Focus the budget on an AM4 X3D CPU and a stronger GPU, such as the 9070 XT. A Ryzen 7 5800X3D with an RTX 5070 Ti would also be a solid combination if you prefer Nvidia.
