I received a notification from my Xfinity service saying that a new MSI laptop had connected to my home network through a wired connection. I don't own an MSI laptop, and I checked the modem/router in the closet but couldn't find any unfamiliar device plugged into it. The active-device list only shows my TV, work laptop, desktop, and phones, while the supposed MSI laptop doesn't appear there or in the offline-device list. Could this be a mislabeled existing device, a router glitch, or something I should be concerned about?

If there’s genuinely nothing unfamiliar connected to the router’s Ethernet ports, then an unknown device probably isn’t physically connected by wire. The notification may be referring to a device that was briefly detected and then disappeared, or the service may have classified it incorrectly.
The device name doesn’t necessarily mean it’s an MSI laptop. Routers and internet-provider apps sometimes identify devices based on a guessed manufacturer, hostname, or network adapter information, and those guesses can be wrong. Check the router’s actual client list and look for an unfamiliar MAC address rather than relying only on the displayed name.
The “wired” label is odd, but it could be a stale or incorrect notification. If the device isn’t present in the router’s current client list and no new cable is connected, there may not be an active intruder. Still, changing the Wi-Fi password, checking the Ethernet connections, and reviewing the router’s event log would rule out anything persistent.

That may be what happened. The router’s active and offline lists only show devices I recognize, so I couldn’t find a matching unknown device after opening the notification.
