My Samsung Galaxy A54 was working normally when the screen repeatedly went black and the phone appeared to shut down with about 3% battery remaining. After restarting it, the battery indicator suddenly showed 75%. I left it alone to let the battery drain, but it became very hot without being used and then powered itself off. After cooling down, it started again at 0% and appeared to charge normally. The screen has not gone black since, but the upper-middle area of the back becomes noticeably warm after only a minute of light messaging. I have read that a faulty lithium-ion battery can be dangerous, although the phone is not swollen or visibly damaged. Should I continue using or charging it, or does this require immediate service?

The incorrect battery readings, unexpected shutdowns, and heating strongly suggest a battery or power-management fault. A battery does not have to swell before it becomes unsafe. Stop using the phone and avoid charging it, especially unattended or overnight. Keep it powered off on a nonflammable surface and arrange an inspection or battery replacement through Samsung or a reputable repair shop. If it becomes hot again, swells, smells unusual, hisses, or starts smoking, move away from it and contact emergency services rather than handling it.
It seemed normal after cooling down, but the back started warming up again during light messaging. I’ll stop using and charging it and have it checked instead of assuming the problem fixed itself.
