Will the B650M Aorus Pro AX handle a future Ryzen 9 9950X?

I'm considering buying the B650M Aorus Pro AX and may upgrade to a Ryzen 9 9950X later. Will this motherboard's power delivery and cooling be good enough to run that CPU reliably, or would I be better off saving for a B850 or X870 board? Newer boards are considerably more expensive where I live. I'd also appreciate an air-cooler recommendation for the 9950X, and I'm wondering whether the Frozen A620 would be suitable.

Compatibility should not be the concern as long as the motherboard receives the appropriate BIOS update. Just keep in mind that by the time you upgrade, a newer or more efficient processor might offer better value than buying a 9950X, especially if prices change.

The board should be able to handle any AM5 CPU with a suitable cooler and power supply. For a 9950X, I’d use a substantial tower cooler or a 240 mm liquid cooler rather than a basic low-profile model. The Frozen A620 may be acceptable depending on the exact model and the CPU’s power limits, but check independent cooling tests before relying on it for sustained heavy workloads.

There’s no automatic reason to avoid B650 just because B850 and X870 exist. If those newer boards cost much more in your country, a good B650 board can be the better value. The main advantages of newer chipsets are additional features and connectivity, not necessarily better performance from the same processor.

That’s what I was thinking. I’d prefer B850 or X870, but the price difference here is pretty large.
