Hey everyone! I'm currently playing Cities: Skylines 2 on my setup with a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3080Ti. However, once my city hits around 40,000 population, the game crashes. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I'm torn between the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. While I do play other games, Cities: Skylines 2 is really pushing my current hardware. I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have. Thanks!

The amount of RAM you have could also be a factor here. How much RAM are you rocking?
For Cities: Skylines 2, you definitely want to look for a CPU with more cores. Chips like the Ryzen 9 7950X or Intel's i9-14900K would really make a difference since this game can utilize all those cores. If you're mostly focused on this game, investing in a higher core count could be the way to go! Just keep in mind that this advice is primarily for those mainly playing this game.
If you're considering an AMD AM5 CPU, you'll need to upgrade both your motherboard and RAM, which can get pricey. If you want to save some cash and stick with AM4, look into the Ryzen 5900X or 5800X3D. On the Intel side, the i7 or i9 from the 13th or 14th generation can be great too. And if you’re leaning toward AM5, the 9900X or 9800X3D are solid options.
Also, is spending an extra $150 for the 9800X3D or 9900X3D worth it compared to the 7800X3D? The pricing is around $500 for the former and $350 for the latter in my country.
What’s your budget like? And where are you located? The X3D models typically perform better for games like this. But check what's available in your market before making a decision.
Honestly, at a $150 difference, it really depends on your overall budget and how much performance you're looking to squeeze out. The 9800X3D and 9900X3D will definitely give you some advantages, especially in CPU-intensive games like this.
