I'm planning a gaming PC in the United States with a budget of about $1,000, and I'd like feedback on the parts list before buying. The build is intended to have a matcha-and-black aesthetic, with the matcha color coming from the case and cable covers. I don't have access to Micro Center, so the recommendations should be based on regular retail pricing. What would you change for better performance, value, or reliability?

The build looks reasonable, but an Intel Core i5-14400F with an affordable B760M DDR4 motherboard could be worth considering. For roughly $18 more on the CPU, you get around 5% better gaming performance and substantially stronger all-core performance compared with the current processor. The tradeoff is that this particular budget motherboard has weak VRMs, limited rear I/O, and no debug LEDs, so it isn’t a great platform for a major future CPU upgrade.
Overall, it’s a fine list as long as the parts are new and the prices stay within budget. If you need room for a better graphics card or want to add the cosmetic cable covers, checking reputable used listings for selected components could save some money. Just be more cautious with used storage and power supplies, since warranty and reliability matter more for those parts.
If the motherboard has a PCIe 4.0 NVMe slot, I’d look for a Gen4 SSD instead of a Gen3 model. They’re often only about $10 more, and several 1TB options can be found around the $90–$100 range. It won’t transform gaming load times, but getting the faster drive at nearly the same price is worthwhile.
