You don’t need to master everything immediately, but you should understand how code moves from a commit through testing and deployment into production.

Requirements vary widely between companies, so identify the specific cloud, CI/CD platform, scripting language, container tools, source-control practices, and infrastructure tools listed for the role. DevSecOps can combine the strengths of both security and operations, but the exact balance depends on the position.

Start using Linux regularly and spend time with Kubernetes and CI/CD. The amount of material can feel overwhelming, so organize your learning around a practical DevOps roadmap and focus first on the core concepts rather than trying to memorize every tool.

Don’t only learn how to design a secure pipeline—learn how to troubleshoot one. CI/CD systems often break because of missing environment variables, bad build arguments, dependency issues, flaky tests, permissions, or incorrect configuration. Build a small pipeline and deliberately debug failures so you understand the everyday workflow.

The biggest gap to close is hands-on Git experience. Practice branching, pull requests, rebasing or merging, resolving conflicts, reviewing changes, and tracing how a commit triggers a pipeline. Security knowledge transfers well, but interviews may expect practical Git muscle memory.
