I was given a dead Sentey Slim 2220 desktop after its power supply failed. The owner needs the data recovered so they can move it to a replacement notebook, and there is no backup, so damaging the drive could have serious legal and practical consequences. The drive is an early-2010s full-size Samsung HDD, mounted inside a bay that seems inaccessible from the usual angles. The bay appears stuck, with no obvious release lever, button, or removable screws, and parts of the case seem to be riveted in place. I considered cutting away the surrounding sheet metal, but I want to avoid damaging the drive or making data recovery harder. What is the safest way to free the bay or access the drive?

Try removing or loosening the front panel first. The bay may be secured by screws behind it, and the front assembly can look permanently attached even when it is only held in place by plastic clips or rivets. Check both side panels and the underside of the drive before cutting anything.
The photos make the mounting arrangement difficult to see, but this looks like a removable or hot-swap-style bay. Try pulling it straight out with steady force, since it may be misaligned in its rails. Also check whether the drive has screws through its bottom mounting holes, which may only be reachable after removing the opposite side panel.
Before forcing or cutting the chassis, make sure the owner understands the risk and that you have authorization to proceed. If the drive was affected by the power-supply failure, recovering an image or clone should be the priority once it is accessible, rather than using it normally for repeated tests.
Since the SATA connectors appear accessible, you might be able to connect the drive while it is still mounted and copy or clone the data from another computer. Use a stable system and avoid repeatedly powering it on if the failed power supply may have sent a voltage spike through the drive.
If the drive makes unusual noises or is not detected, stop experimenting. A professional recovery service is safer than cutting around a disk containing the only copy of legally important data.

I checked the front again. It was riveted, but pulling firmly from underneath cracked the plastic enough to expose two screws. Once those were removed, the bay slid out and the drive was freed.
