The system performs well, but when I connected it to my 4K TV, I noticed nearly the same FPS and started wondering whether the CPU is limiting the GPU. I'd like to improve performance without spending heavily on AM4 right before eventually moving to a newer platform. A Ryzen 7 5800X3D costs around €360, which feels expensive for a discontinued socket. Instead, I considered buying a Samsung Odyssey G7 with a 5120×2160 resolution. Would the higher resolution make sense as a way to shift the workload toward the GPU, especially if upscaling technologies like FSR continue improving? Or would upgrading the CPU be the more sensible choice?

If you really are CPU-limited, an X3D chip is the straightforward AM4 upgrade. A 5800X3D or a less expensive 5700X3D can provide a meaningful improvement in CPU-heavy games, and undervolting can help with temperatures and power use. That said, don’t upgrade based only on the fact that a bottleneck exists—every system has one somewhere. Upgrade if your minimum FPS or frame-time consistency is genuinely bothering you.
A higher-resolution monitor won’t remove the bottleneck or improve your FPS. It usually just shifts the limitation from the CPU to the GPU, while also lowering your overall frame rate. A 5120×2160 display is extremely demanding, so it would be a questionable upgrade with a 9070 XT unless you specifically want the extra resolution and accept using upscaling or reduced settings.
If the 5800X3D price feels too high, compare the total cost of replacing the motherboard, memory, and CPU with an entry-level AM5 setup. A reasonably priced AM5 processor may offer similar gaming performance while giving you a future upgrade path. Otherwise, keeping the current system and waiting is perfectly reasonable, especially if you’re already getting the FPS and smoothness you want.
