My mouse pointer is normally red, but today the regular pointer suddenly changed back to the default white style. Interestingly, it still turns red when I move it over text. I tried changing the pointer appearance again in the mouse settings, but the normal pointer remains unchanged. What could be causing this, and how can I restore the red cursor everywhere?

Normally Windows uses a white pointer with a black outline unless a custom color was selected under Mouse settings, in the section for adjusting mouse and cursor size. You can try selecting the red color again and applying it, although that may not work if a recent system update is overriding the normal pointer.
This may be caused by a recent Windows 11 update that has been reported to break custom mouse cursors. Since the red pointer still appears over text, the custom scheme may still be installed, but the standard pointer is being replaced by the default one. Check whether your system recently updated, then try restarting, reinstalling the cursor scheme, or uninstalling the problematic update if the issue started immediately afterward.
