Should I switch from Bazzite to CachyOS for Sims 4 mods?

Nobara has been a stable gaming choice for some people who want more flexibility than an immutable gaming-focused system. Still, I’d treat that as a separate preference rather than a direct fix for the mod issue.

CachyOS is an Arch-based distribution and can be easier to break, so it may require more terminal knowledge and troubleshooting than this particular problem. If you want something less immutable while still keeping gaming conveniences, Nobara could be worth considering, but changing distributions shouldn’t be the first step.

If you’re comfortable with CachyOS and simply want to try it, go ahead, but don’t choose it expecting Sims 4 mods to automatically work there. The game configuration and mod installation process will still need to be handled correctly.

Switching distributions probably won’t solve this by itself. Someone has successfully used plenty of Sims 4 custom content and mods on a Bazzite living-room machine; the tricky part was finding the correct Wine prefix and putting the files in the right location. I’d look for a current setup guide and troubleshoot the existing installation before replacing the operating system.

The important difference here is likely Bazzite’s immutable design, not whether the distribution is Bazzite or CachyOS. Mods normally live in the game’s user data or compatibility prefix and shouldn’t need administrator access. I’d first verify where the game is installed, locate its prefix, and make sure the mod files are in the expected Mods folder.
