What PC Build Can Run Fortnite at 4K and 165 FPS on a Living-Room TV?

I'm an Xbox player in the United States who mainly plays Fortnite, and I'm considering moving to a living-room PC with a new high-refresh-rate TV. I'm aiming for a smooth 165 FPS at 4K, but I would use low or medium settings because competitive play matters more than maximum visual quality. I'd prefer a small- or medium-form-factor build, and I'd like it to stay reasonably quiet. What CPU, GPU, RAM, and other parts should I be looking at, and would a system like this cost closer to $1,000, $1,500, or $2,000?

Make sure you distinguish between refresh rate and frame rate: the TV’s refresh rate is measured in hertz, while the PC produces frames per second. A 165 Hz TV can display up to 165 refreshes per second, but the PC still has to render that many frames. Also check that the TV supports the required HDMI input bandwidth and a proper 4K high-refresh PC mode.

If competitive Fortnite is the priority, a 240 Hz 1080p monitor is usually a better experience and much cheaper to drive than a 4K living-room TV. Even older hardware can deliver very high frame rates in Performance Mode at 1080p. You could keep the TV for casual gaming and build a significantly less expensive PC for the competitive setup.

An OLED would be worth considering if the budget allows it because the motion clarity and response time are excellent. Just remember that OLED TVs can have burn-in concerns with static HUD elements, so use screen-protection features and avoid leaving Fortnite menus paused for long periods.

For a real 4K/165 target, the graphics card is the main concern. A midrange card may handle Fortnite well at 1080p or 1440p, but consistently reaching 165 FPS at 4K is a much higher bar, even on low settings. I’d plan around a powerful current-generation GPU, a modern six- or eight-core CPU, 32 GB of DDR5 memory, and a quality 750–850 W power supply. A complete small-form-factor system would more realistically land around $1,500–$2,000, depending on the GPU and whether you buy used parts.
