I'm wondering whether my current PC is still strong enough for newer games, especially MMOs, and whether I should upgrade now or wait. I'm particularly interested in how it might handle Aion 2 when it launches, but I'm not sure what component would make the most sense to replace first.
My current build is:
- AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- MSI X570 Gaming Plus motherboard
- MSI CoreLiquid 360R V2 AIO cooler
- Gigabyte RTX 3080 Ti 12GB
- 1TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD
- 2TB Samsung 870 Evo SSD
- 64GB TeamGroup DDR4-3600 RAM
- Corsair RM1000x 1000W Gold PSU
- Corsair 4000D RGB case
- AXE5400 Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth adapter
Should I upgrade a specific part, or would it be better to keep this system and wait until I actually run into performance problems?

If an MMO ends up being heavily CPU-limited, the most practical upgrade would be a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, or another compatible X3D processor supported by your motherboard. That would let you keep your X570 board and DDR4 memory instead of replacing the entire platform. I’d only do it after checking actual benchmarks or seeing that your CPU is holding back performance.
The main factor is your resolution and target frame rate. At 1080p or 1440p, the 3080 Ti should still perform very well. At 4K with demanding settings, a newer GPU could eventually provide a noticeable improvement, but it would still be a luxury upgrade rather than something your system urgently needs.
If you eventually want a major upgrade, that would mean moving to a newer platform with a modern X3D CPU, DDR5 memory, and a newer graphics card such as an RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080-class GPU. However, that’s essentially a full system refresh, so it makes more sense to wait until your current PC no longer meets your needs.
There’s no urgent reason to upgrade. A Ryzen 7 5800X and RTX 3080 Ti are still a powerful combination for current games, and 64GB of RAM is more than enough for gaming. I’d wait and see how the games you care about actually perform before spending money.
That makes sense. Newer platforms and DDR5 memory are expensive right now, so waiting seems like the better choice unless I run into a real limitation.
An X3D upgrade is probably the most convenient path for this build. I’ll see how Aion 2 performs before deciding.
