My current gaming PC has lasted almost eight years without any upgrades, but its GTX 1070 Ti is starting to show its age. I'm planning a completely new build and have wanted a white setup for a long time, preferably with a modern-looking case and some RGB instead of another plain black system.
I'm deciding between an RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080, although I'm also open to other options if the value is significantly better. My budget is around $4,600 or €4,000, and I'll be gaming on a Samsung Odyssey 1440p OLED monitor running at 360 Hz. I mainly play Overwatch 2, Rocket League, EA Sports FC, Dead by Daylight, and hopefully more visually demanding AAA games such as GTA 6 when it releases.
Is the RTX 5080 worth paying extra for at 1440p, or would the 5070 Ti be the more sensible choice? I'm also curious whether white cases and components really show dust much more noticeably than black ones. I don't mind cleaning regularly, and I'd like this PC to last for many years like my current one.

White builds look great when they’re clean, but color is mostly a personal preference. Black parts may hide some dust and are often cheaper, while white cases and components can carry a premium for identical hardware. Since you’re happy to clean the system and plan to keep it for years, there’s no technical reason to avoid white. Just prioritize airflow and build quality over matching every single component.
Your monitor and budget make the RTX 5080 a reasonable option, but it isn’t automatically necessary. At 1440p, an RTX 5070 Ti should handle your competitive games extremely well and run modern AAA titles comfortably with sensible settings. I’d only move to the 5080 if you want extra headroom for ray tracing, high refresh rates in demanding games, or a longer upgrade cycle. Put the remaining money into a strong CPU, plenty of RAM, a quality power supply, and good cooling.
Before choosing a graphics card, compare current prices where you live. The RX 9070 XT can offer similar rasterized gaming performance to the RTX 5070 Ti at a much lower price, especially at 1440p. The 5070 Ti becomes more attractive if you care about ray tracing, Nvidia’s upscaling and frame-generation features, or streaming support. The RTX 5080 is the fastest option here, but it may not provide enough extra value at 1440p unless you specifically want maximum performance in demanding games.
A white PC is completely practical. Dust collects on every computer; it’s just sometimes more visible against certain white surfaces. Use dust filters, keep the case slightly elevated, maintain positive air pressure, and clean it with an electric air duster occasionally. White components can cost a little more, so choose them because you like the appearance rather than expecting better performance.
Nvidia is still the safer choice if you want ray tracing, DLSS, and a straightforward software experience. AMD can be excellent value, but the decision mostly depends on whether those Nvidia features matter to you and how large the price difference is.
