I want to build a PC, but I don't currently have enough money to purchase every component at once. I'm especially concerned that RAM prices may rise significantly before I can afford the complete build. Is it worth buying certain parts early to lock in current prices, or is it safer to keep saving and buy everything close together?

If you absolutely need to spread out the purchases, a case or extra fans are relatively safe to buy early since they rarely arrive defective and are unlikely to become obsolete. Storage can also be reasonable. I’d wait on the CPU and motherboard until you’re ready to assemble the system, and usually wait on the GPU unless a particularly good deal appears.
The safest approach is to keep saving and buy the main components around the same time. If a CPU, motherboard, or other part arrives faulty, you want enough time left in the retailer’s return window to test it. Buying parts months early also means they could become outdated before the build is finished, and bundle discounts may be available when you purchase the CPU, motherboard, and RAM together.
It also prevents expensive parts from sitting unused in a box while their return period expires.
Buying early can make sense if you find an unusually good deal or have strong reason to expect a major price increase, but it’s a gamble. RAM and storage are generally less risky to buy ahead of time because they’re easy to test and don’t depend as heavily on the rest of the build. Even then, make sure you can test them before the return window closes.
There have been cases where buying RAM, an SSD, or a graphics card early saved a lot of money, but that depends on the market and how soon you’ll finish the build. If you won’t have the remaining funds for a long time, waiting is usually better. If prices are clearly rising and you can test the parts soon, buying one or two strategically chosen components may be worth the risk.

A PC with integrated graphics can sometimes be tested without a dedicated GPU, but that only works if the processor includes an integrated graphics chip.
