DVD Player Picture Works but There’s No Sound Through My Monitor

I recently bought a new monitor and connected my DVD player so I could watch movies on it. The video displays perfectly, but I'm not getting any audio. I assumed the monitor's built-in speakers would handle the sound, but I'm not sure whether the DVD player is connected correctly for audio output.

Make sure the DVD player’s audio output is actually connected to an audio input on the monitor. A video cable by itself may only carry the picture, depending on the connection type. Also check that the monitor is set to the correct audio source and that its volume isn’t muted. If the monitor can’t receive audio from the DVD player, you’ll need external speakers or another device with speakers.

I hadn’t connected a separate audio cable because I thought the monitor’s built-in speakers would automatically play the sound. I’ll check whether the connection I’m using carries audio and whether the monitor has a compatible audio input.
