Should I use HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 for my RTX 3070 and 1440p 280Hz monitor?

I recently bought a Gigabyte MO27Q2A monitor with a 1440p resolution and 280Hz refresh rate. My RTX 3070 supports both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. Which connection should I use to get the best experience and full refresh rate?

Use DisplayPort 1.4 for a PC-to-monitor connection. At 1440p and 280Hz, it should work fine if the monitor supports DSC, and it also keeps your GPU's HDMI port available for a TV or another display.

HDMI 2.1 has more bandwidth, so it is the better fallback if the monitor cannot achieve 280Hz over DisplayPort 1.4 or does not support DSC over DisplayPort. Otherwise, there is unlikely to be a noticeable difference.

Either connection should be capable at that resolution and refresh rate. Check the monitor's specifications and make sure DSC is enabled if DisplayPort needs it to reach the full 280Hz.
