I noticed ants crawling out of my laptop, so I shut it down and placed it on a light-colored sofa where I could see them. After about an hour, one or two ants are still emerging. What's the safest way to make sure the laptop is clear of ants without damaging it?

You could place a tiny amount of sugar or another ant bait outside the laptop to draw any remaining ants away from it. Keep the laptop shut down and away from food while doing this, then clean the surrounding area thoroughly.
The most reliable option is to inspect the laptop’s vents and, if you’re comfortable doing so, open the bottom panel and check for ants or nesting material. If you don’t want to disassemble it, place the powered-off laptop in a sealed container with ant traps nearby for a couple of days. Don’t put bait or liquids inside the laptop.
I wouldn’t turn the laptop on just to heat or blow the ants out. Ants may remain inside, and heat, debris, or moisture from a nest could create additional problems. After the ants are gone, use compressed air around the vents and have the machine inspected if you notice continued activity or any malfunctioning.
