Does the Intel Core i9-12900KF Support ECC Memory on a W680 Board?

I'm planning to build a dedicated server using an older Intel Core i9-12900KF and pair it with a W680 motherboard and ECC UDIMM memory. Intel's specifications and various hardware sites seem inconsistent: some indicate that the Core i9-12900K supports ECC, while the 12900KF is listed as not supporting it. I remember Intel enabling ECC support on some LGA1700 processors, so I'd like to confirm whether the 12900KF can actually use ECC memory on a W680 platform before buying the parts.

The 12900KF is generally listed as not supporting ECC memory officially. While some LGA1700 processors and compatible chipsets can use ECC, that support depends on the exact CPU model and platform, so the standard specifications for the 12900KF should be treated as authoritative.

The regular 12900K and the 12900KF shouldn’t be assumed to have identical ECC support. The KF model is specifically documented without ECC support, and a W680 motherboard cannot add CPU-level ECC support that the processor itself doesn’t provide.

The safest conclusion is that the 12900KF is not an appropriate choice for an ECC-based server build. If memory error correction is important, use a processor that Intel explicitly lists as supporting ECC with the selected W680 board rather than relying on reports that it might work.
