What Software Should I Install on a Fresh Windows 11 PC?

Hey everyone! I'm getting a new PC after I've been without one for almost 5 years, and it finally arrived today! Since I haven't been keeping up, I'm curious about what kind of programs I should install on a fresh Windows 11 setup. I used to rely on Ninite for quick installations of my go-to software like Chrome, Open Office, and ShareX. Is Ninite still a thing? Also, how tough is the switch from Windows 10 to 11? I figure it's not too different, but since I've been out of the loop for so long, I'll have to relearn everything!

My biggest concern is finding a good antivirus or malware protection that's effective, lightweight, and preferably free. I used to use Malwarebytes and another one that I can't remember. I'd really appreciate any tips you might have!

Windows 11 isn't too different from 10, aside from some UI changes like the start menu. You might actually find Windows Security (the built-in antivirus) sufficient nowadays. Just make sure to practice safe browsing like using an ad blocker and using tools like VirusTotal to check any files you download.

I highly recommend checking out Everything by Voidtools for quick file searches. It’s super handy! And if you’re a gamer, MSI Afterburner for tweaking performance is a must. Plus, disabling core isolation in Windows Defender can give you a nice FPS boost while gaming!

When you get a new PC, one of the first things I recommend is to reinstall Windows. Preinstalled systems often come with a lot of bloatware that's hard to remove. Trust me, a fresh start is usually best! Also, decide if you want to log in with a Microsoft account or go local—make that choice before connecting to any network during setup.
