I got a gift of 2 x 8GB RAM sticks and I'm trying to decide whether to replace my current 1 x 16GB stick with them or add them on for a total of 32GB. My current RAM runs at 2933MT/s, while the new sticks are 3200MT/s. I want to maximize performance, especially since I game a lot and run into stuttering issues when I have other applications, like Discord, open. I've heard mixed things about using different RAM types in the same system, so I'm unsure about the best option here.

Quick question, what resolution does your monitor support? If you’re gaming at 4K, more RAM might help, but you also need a good GPU to match. Just something to consider when deciding on upgrades!
I'd suggest trying to run your 16GB stick in one channel and the 2 x 8GB kit in the other. Honestly, having 32GB at 2933MT/s is better than just 16GB at 3200MT/s. Generally, dual-channel setups work pretty well, especially at lower speeds like that. If it doesn’t work seamlessly, you can always switch back to the 16GB kit.
That’s what I’m hoping! Thanks for the input!
I’m running 4K.
