I'm planning a CPU upgrade mainly for modded Minecraft with shaders. My current system has a Ryzen 5 3600, an RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, and 32GB of DDR4 memory. I play at 1080p and want to stay on the AM4 platform. I'm considering the Ryzen 7 5800X for about €200 or the Ryzen 7 5800X3D for roughly €320. Minecraft is often said to benefit from strong CPU clock speeds, but I've also heard that the extra 3D V-Cache can make a significant difference. Which processor would be the better choice for this use case?

If you can’t buy one of the cheaper specialty X3D options in your region, the 5800X3D is the logical AM4 upgrade for a Minecraft-focused build. The regular 5800X is still a solid improvement over the 3600 and costs less, but the X3D model should provide better consistency and higher frame rates in cache-sensitive games like Minecraft.
The 5800X3D is probably the better fit if Minecraft is your main game. Its extra cache can help with the game’s fairly cache-sensitive workloads, including situations where garbage collection and large modded worlds cause performance dips. The additional €120 can be worthwhile if you plan to keep the system for several years. Also, make sure you’re using performance-enhancing mods alongside your shaders rather than relying on shaders alone.

So even though it may have similar or lower clock speeds, the larger cache can make the 5800X3D a better choice for Minecraft? I already use performance mods with shaders.
