My old PC has died, so I'm planning to move from AM4 to AM5 with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 32GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 CL30 memory. I'm currently comparing these motherboards: ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS for €174.80, MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk WIFI for €199, and Gigabyte AORUS B850 ELITE WIFI7 for €190. Is one of these clearly better, or would a less expensive B650 board be enough for this processor?

All three should handle the 7800X3D without any meaningful performance difference. I’d probably choose the least expensive board that has the features you actually need, such as Wi-Fi, rear USB ports, M.2 slots, and a suitable BIOS version. A good B650 board would also be perfectly adequate.

You don’t need an expensive motherboard for this CPU. Even a decent B650 board can run a 7800X3D and DDR5-6000 CL30 without trouble, assuming the memory is supported and the BIOS is up to date. Put the savings toward the GPU, storage, or cooling instead.

I’d lean toward the MSI MAG Tomahawk, with the ASUS TUF as another reasonable choice. The Tomahawk generally offers a strong feature set and power delivery, but the difference won’t make the 7800X3D faster. Compare the exact I/O and expansion features, then buy whichever is cheapest.
