I'm about to replace my GTX 1060 with an RTX 3050 that a friend sold me. Is it basically plug and play, or should I use DDU to remove the old graphics drivers and install fresh ones? I've never opened my PC or installed an upgrade before, so I'd appreciate a beginner-friendly explanation of what to check and what steps to follow.

Don’t assume the RTX 3050 is a huge performance upgrade just because it has a newer generation number. Compared with a GTX 1060, it may be a modest upgrade depending on whether yours is the 3GB or 6GB model, but it does provide newer features, hardware ray tracing, and better driver support. Check the power-supply requirements and the card’s connector before installing it.
Both cards use NVIDIA drivers, so the swap will usually work without major issues. Shut the PC down, unplug it, remove the old card, install the 3050 firmly in the PCIe slot, connect any required power cable, and make sure your monitor is plugged into the new card. Then download the latest NVIDIA driver and choose the clean-install option. DDU is useful for completely removing old drivers, but it isn’t always necessary for a normal NVIDIA-to-NVIDIA upgrade.
