Why does my new Wi‑Fi 7 USB adapter keep disconnecting?

I recently moved and have been using an older USB wireless adapter with my custom-built desktop. It was slow but generally reliable, so I upgraded to an ASUS ROG USB Wi‑Fi 7 adapter. The new adapter is recognized by Windows, is plugged into a USB 3.0 port, and has the manufacturer's drivers installed, but the connection drops every minute or two. When it stays connected, the speed is excellent. Other devices on the same network work normally, and I've already tried multiple USB ports. Device Manager shows no errors, while the Windows troubleshooter hasn't been useful. The driver currently shows version 5002.24.126.2. What else should I check?

Trying another USB port is worth doing, especially a port farther away from other USB devices. Also verify that any detachable antennas are connected—but this particular adapter apparently doesn’t have external antennas.

I tried several USB ports already, and there aren’t any antennas on this adapter.

A newer driver was suggested, but installing it didn’t solve the problem—the connection continued dropping repeatedly. That points toward checking whether Windows is actually using the intended driver, along with the adapter’s power-management and wireless settings.

Check the exact driver version in Device Manager, then try installing the standalone driver from the manufacturer’s download archive rather than relying only on the setup program. Windows sometimes keeps using its own driver even after the vendor installer finishes.

The adapter is an ROG USB-BE92 and currently shows driver version 5002.24.126.2.
