What GPU, PSU, and fan setup should I choose for this Ryzen 7 7700 build?

I'm planning a PC upgrade focused on the graphics card and case airflow. My current system has a Ryzen 7 7700, Radeon RX 6500 XT 4GB, MSI PRO B650-S WIFI motherboard, 32GB of DDR5 memory, an SPCC M.2 PCIe SSD, and an EVGA 650W power supply. I'm not sure which case model I have, but it currently only has one rear exhaust fan and no front intake fans.

My GPU budget is roughly $1,000 CAD, and I'm hoping to buy around Black Friday. I'm considering an RX 9070 and want to know whether it would pair well with the Ryzen 7 7700, whether the 650W PSU is sufficient, and what fan layout would provide good airflow. I'd also appreciate advice on anything else I should check before buying, such as GPU length, power connectors, PSU quality, cooling, or case compatibility. I'm planning to add two front intake fans and would also like to know whether there's a good way to share a photo of the build for compatibility advice.

For a typical air-cooled setup, three 120mm front intakes and one 120mm rear exhaust is a strong, simple configuration. Since the case currently has no intake fans, adding two or three at the front should make the biggest difference. A second exhaust fan near the rear of the top panel can help in some cases, but it isn’t essential at first.

Avoid putting a top-front fan in exhaust if it would pull cool air out before it reaches the CPU and GPU. Larger 140mm fans can be quieter and move plenty of air, but only if the case supports them. Bottom-mounted fans usually aren’t necessary unless the case and GPU layout specifically benefit from them.

An RX 9070 would be a major upgrade over the RX 6500 XT and should work well with the Ryzen 7 7700. For the price range, it’s a sensible target, especially for high-refresh 1440p gaming. A much more expensive card could also run in this system, but it would likely require spending beyond your stated budget and possibly upgrading the PSU and monitor as well.

Check the exact card’s recommended PSU wattage, since different models can vary. Many RX 9070 cards are generally paired with a 750W supply, so your 650W unit may be borderline even though the Ryzen 7 7700 itself is relatively efficient. Before deciding, verify the EVGA model, age, condition, available PCIe power connectors, and the GPU manufacturer’s requirements. A good-quality 750W PSU would provide more headroom.

Before buying, identify the exact case model and measure the available GPU clearance. An RX 9070 can be substantially longer and thicker than the RX 6500 XT, so check maximum graphics-card length, slot thickness, front-fan clearance, and whether the required power cables can bend without pressing against the side panel. Also make sure the front panel actually allows enough airflow; a restrictive case may limit the benefit of additional fans.

You probably don’t need to replace the motherboard, RAM, storage, or CPU for this upgrade. After installing the card, confirm that the GPU is fully supported, update the graphics driver, and monitor CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming.
