Is Turning Off Frame Generation Bad for My GPU?

Hey everyone! I have an RTX 4080 that I mainly use for playing Marvel Rivals. When I have Frame Generation (FG) on, I can hit frame rates over 240, which is awesome since I have a 240Hz monitor. But when I switch FG off, my frames drop to about 180-190 max, whereas I can potentially get up to 300-400 uncapped. For playing Rivals, I prefer keeping FG off to reduce latency. However, I'm concerned that by pushing my GPU to its limits for extended hours, especially with ranked play, I might be wearing it out faster. I'm looking to upgrade to a 5090 later this year, but I might hold off and wait for a 6090 depending on how things go. So I'm wondering, am I really harming my GPU by playing this way? Will it affect its lifespan significantly, or am I overthinking it? Thanks for any insights!

As long as your temps and power usage are normal, you should be fine. If your GPU's not defective, it’s designed to handle this kind of load.

You're not doing any harm, just play. As long as your cooling is good, you’re golden!

You're honestly worrying too much. Your GPU can handle it! I mean, FG might put more strain technically, but it’s not going to fry your card. Just enjoy your gaming sessions, man!

But what if I uncapped my frames? Would that still be okay?

That's what I'm trying to figure out!

Keeping FG off won’t ruin your GPU! Just keep an eye on the temps.

Honestly, I don't think you need to stress too much about it. As long as you're using your GPU for its intended purpose, it shouldn't die on you because of gameplay. Plus, Frame Generation mainly uses AI to create additional frames, so the GPU load isn't as crazy as one might think. Just game on!

Good question! I'm curious about that too.

But is it true that uncapping frames might have a different impact on my GPU?
