Why did the BBC iPlayer suggestion disappear when I connected my AirPods?

After a recent iPhone update, I noticed a small glass-like rectangular suggestion briefly appear at the bottom of my screen when I removed my AirPods Pro from their case. It suggested opening BBC iPlayer, which I often use while wearing my AirPods. The suggestion appeared automatically and worked once, but it has never shown up again. I'm wondering whether it was an accidentally released feature, something I disabled, or a contextual Siri suggestion that only appears under certain conditions. I'm using an iPhone 12 Pro Max with AirPods Pro.

That sounds like a Siri Suggestion. These suggestions can appear based on your routines, location, time of day, and the device or accessory you’re using. They aren’t guaranteed to show every time, even if all the relevant settings are enabled.

I checked the Siri and Suggestions settings, and everything appears to be turned on. I was hoping to find an example image so I could confirm exactly what it was.

The behavior is probably dynamic rather than a feature that was permanently added or removed in the update. Your iPhone learns which apps you tend to use with your AirPods and may occasionally offer a contextual shortcut, but it can take different circumstances—such as the time or day—for it to appear again.

I’ve had this phone for several years, so I wasn’t sure whether the update reset or introduced something. It makes sense that the suggestion may still be learning or only appear in specific situations.
