Do I really need a GPU better than RTX 3070?

Hey everyone, I'm totally new to building PCs and have been looking into secondhand parts. My sister has an RTX 3070 paired with an i7 (11th gen, I think), and she's been happy with it. But I keep hearing people suggest I should aim for something like a 4060 or better. My budget is around AUD 800. I want to make sure I don't limit my upgrade options in the future, so I'm avoiding older GPUs in the 16s, 10s, or 20s ranges. I'm mainly planning to play games like Genshin, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Stray, and Valorant. Is there any reason I'd need something better than an RTX 3070? Right now, I'm gaming on a PS4 using a projector, so 1080p is totally fine for me, and I just want to ensure a good gameplay experience. I feel like I've done a lot of research, but I still feel a bit overwhelmed.

If you're gaming at 1080p, the RTX 3070 is more than enough. In fact, it might even be overkill for you. It should handle your games really well without any issues!

Nothing's really necessary, but the RTX 3070 does have 8GB of VRAM, which isn't the best for higher resolutions and newer titles. If you can snag a used one for under $300, that's a solid deal! Just keep in mind that for less than $500, it's not the best price for what you get. For most of the popular games, the 3070 is still a good choice though!

I've heard that the 3070 isn’t getting as much love now since it’s not as powerful compared to newer models like the RX 6800. If you're considering upgrades, that could be a better choice!

I think the 3070 has its merits, but there are newer options that might give you better value for your money. Just weigh your options carefully!

I run a 3070 at 1440p and it handles most games really well, hitting 60fps on medium to high settings. If you’re not into ray tracing, the 3070 should serve you fine! Just make sure not to rush into upgrades unless you absolutely feel the need for it.

Honestly, the 3070 performs better than the 4060. If you're just playing casual games, you might want to consider the 3060 Ti for a better price-to-performance ratio. It's not about just having the latest card, but what gives you the best experience for your budget!

You’ll be good with a 3070 for your games! But just a heads up, AUD 800 might be tight if you want all new components. I'd recommend looking for a used GPU since they’re usually more affordable and can help you upgrade the rest of your build!
