I bought a Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX motherboard and want to install a Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. Is it likely to boot without any BIOS updates, or should I update the BIOS first? I know the board supports updating through a USB flash drive, but I'm not sure whether that will be necessary.

Be careful about assuming you can update the BIOS after installing the CPU. If the existing BIOS is too old to recognize the 9800X3D, the system may not reach the setup screen. Check Gigabyte’s website for the minimum BIOS version, and use Q-Flash Plus with a USB drive if the board needs an update before it can boot.

If the motherboard was purchased recently, there’s a good chance it already includes a compatible BIOS, but it isn’t guaranteed. Look for the BIOS version on the board’s label or packaging, and use Q-Flash Plus if an update is needed.

Yes, the B650 Eagle AX is compatible with the 9800X3D. Check Gigabyte’s CPU support list and BIOS notes first, since the required BIOS version depends on when the board was manufactured. If it already has a recent BIOS, it should boot normally.

How can I check which BIOS version is currently installed on the motherboard?

Updating to the newest stable BIOS is recommended before installing the processor if you can do it safely. It should provide the necessary 9800X3D support and leave you ready to use the system.
