I'm considering buying a used 4TB Seagate BarraCuda for $50, but CrystalDiskInfo reports a Caution status because of reallocated sectors. Is that serious enough to avoid the drive, or could it still be reliable? I'm not very familiar with interpreting SMART results and want to know what tests I should run before deciding.

For a used drive at this price, a health warning makes the risk hard to justify. The seller may be honest about the condition, but that does not make the drive dependable. Ask for the full SMART data, check whether the reallocated-sector count is stable, and verify that the extended test passes. If the seller cannot provide that information, I’d spend the money on a drive with a clean health status instead.
I’d be cautious and probably pass unless you can inspect the complete SMART report and run a full extended test. A reallocated sector means the drive found a damaged or unreliable area and replaced it with spare space. One isolated, stable reallocated sector does not guarantee immediate failure, but increasing counts or other warnings—especially pending or uncorrectable sectors—are strong reasons not to trust it. The drive should never be used for anything important without a separate backup.
I’ll run a complete SMART report and an extended test if I decide to inspect it. I’m mainly trying to understand whether a Caution rating by itself is an automatic deal-breaker.
