How Reliable Is Microsoft Teams on Linux Mint?

I'm considering using Microsoft Teams on Linux Mint and wondering how dependable it is in everyday use. Since Microsoft doesn't provide a fully official native Linux client, I'm curious whether the browser version, a progressive web app, or an unofficial package works well for meetings, messaging, and sign-ins. How does the experience compare with using Teams on Windows or macOS?

There are unofficial Linux packages available through software managers and Flatpak sources. They’re essentially wrappers around the web version, but they work fine for many users on Linux distributions. Don’t expect every advanced feature to behave perfectly, though.

For ordinary calls, chats, and screen sharing, Teams on Mint seems usable. The main limitation is that there’s no official native Linux application, so browser support and Microsoft’s web implementation determine how well everything works. Features such as transcription or specialized enterprise tools may be less consistent.

I’ve had no trouble using it for occasional group calls in Firefox on Mint, but I haven’t needed any of the more advanced business features.

Teams can be frustrating on any platform, including Windows, so Linux isn’t necessarily worse. If an organization requires passkeys or certain authentication methods, the login flow may be awkward in an unofficial client; sometimes waiting for the passkey prompt to time out reveals a normal password option.

The browser version works well for basic meetings and messaging, especially in Firefox or Chromium. Several people use it regularly on Mint without major problems, and it can be installed as a PWA or web app for a more app-like experience. It’s also often just as reliable as the Windows client.

I’ve used the browser version since 2020 and found it more dependable than the desktop app, even on Windows.
