I'm considering upgrading from a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, although I'm not in a hurry and could wait for the next GPU generation. Most of the rest of my PC has already been upgraded, so the graphics card is the only component I'm seriously considering replacing.
I mainly play at 3440×1440 on a 280 Hz monitor, with occasional 4K gaming on a living-room TV. My games range from Diablo 4 and older titles to demanding modern games such as Cyberpunk 2077. I generally use the quality or balanced upscaling settings recommended by hardware reviewers. DLSS 4/4.5 and FSR 4 both look good to me, while ray tracing and path tracing are welcome but not essential.
The biggest appeal of upgrading now would be getting similar or better performance with lower temperatures, noise, and power consumption than my undervolted 3080 Ti. What would be a genuinely good current price for an RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, or Radeon RX 9070 XT? Which would make the most sense for my usage?

You may not actually need to upgrade yet. A 3080 Ti is still capable at ultrawide 1440p, and your games don’t sound like they require an immediate replacement. Since you’re comfortable waiting, set a price target and hold out for a sale or a new generation. Open-box cards can sometimes be 10–15% cheaper, but check the warranty and return period carefully.
The RTX 5070 Ti is the safer choice if you prefer Nvidia’s feature set, especially DLSS and broader application support. Around $950–$1,000 would be a reasonable target in the current market, but paying much more makes the 9070 XT look increasingly attractive. The RTX 5080 is faster, but it usually costs substantially more without offering a proportional improvement for 3440×1440 gaming. I’d want one near $1,250 before calling it a good buy.
Recent real-world pricing can be much higher than launch pricing: roughly $750 or more for a 9070 XT, around $1,100 for a 5070 Ti, and $1,500 or more for a 5080 in some markets. If those are the prices available, the 9070 XT is the obvious value pick. I would avoid paying a large premium for the XT over a regular RX 9070 unless you specifically want the extra performance; the difference is often only around 10–15%.
The best upgrade depends on what you value. Pick the 9070 XT for price and rasterized gaming, the 5070 Ti for Nvidia’s ecosystem and upscaling features, and the 5080 only if you want maximum performance and are comfortable paying a lot more. Since quieter operation is important and you’re not in a rush, I’d wait for the first card that reaches your target price rather than buying based on a small benchmark lead.
For your priorities, the RX 9070 XT is probably the best value if you don’t specifically need Nvidia features. It performs well at 3440×1440, supports FSR 4, and is generally cooler and more efficient than a 3080 Ti. Regular ray tracing is also usable on this generation, so avoiding Nvidia doesn’t mean giving up RT entirely. I’d watch for roughly $650–$700, though prices vary a lot by region and availability.
