I'm currently using an i9-10850K with 32GB of DDR4 3600 RAM and just got a 5090 GPU for some serious 4K gaming. However, I'm noticing that my frame rates aren't as high as I expected compared to what's shown in YouTube videos. I'm looking to upgrade to either the 7800X3D or the 9800X3D, and there's about a $100 difference between the two. I'm also considering buying the Asus Strix B850-A for $229 and Gskill Trident 6000MHz CL30 RAM. Are these good choices for a gaming-only PC? Oh, and just to update, I went ahead and bought the 9800X3D!

Honestly, for pure gaming, the performance gap between the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D isn't huge. Since you've already spent a fortune on a top-tier GPU, I’d say it’s worth it to spend the extra $100 to go for the best gaming CPU you can get.
Dude, you ended up with the 9800X3D, which is awesome! It's widely regarded as one of the best gaming CPUs right now, especially when paired with a 5090. You're going to have a beast of a system!
What about the 9950X3D, is that better for future-proofing?
A good rule of thumb is to consider the overall cost of your PC. If adding $100 for the CPU results in less than a 15% difference in your total PC price, then the 9800X3D is the better option. Given your setup with a 5090, the 9800X3D seems like an easy yes!
Totally agree! I just picked up the 9800X3D with my 5090 too—it's definitely a solid choice!
