Windows 11 update left my laptop stuck on a black screen

About a week ago, I installed the latest Windows 11 security update. Soon afterward, the laptop began crashing, showing a blank screen, and sometimes having trouble powering back on. I was able to uninstall the update, and the laptop worked normally for a day or two, but Windows installed the update again automatically. Since then, it will not start properly. The power, Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Esc lights are on, and the fans are running, but the display only shows a different shade of black. There is no mouse pointer or visible interface. I have tried keyboard shortcuts and the Novo button without success. What should I try next?

Since the screen is completely blank and there is no moving pointer, this sounds more serious than a normal black-screen-after-login problem. Check whether the display brightness controls make any difference and look closely with a flashlight for a very faint image. If an external display also shows nothing and the BIOS or Novo menu will not appear, contact the laptop manufacturer or a repair technician; the update may have exposed an issue with the display, graphics hardware, or firmware.

There is no mouse pointer or anything visible on the screen at all. I have already tried the keyboard shortcuts and the Novo button, but neither brought up a menu.

If you can eventually reach the recovery environment, use System Restore or uninstall the latest quality update rather than repeatedly booting into Windows. You could also create Windows installation or recovery media on another computer and use its repair options. Avoid changing BIOS or disk settings until important files are backed up, since some recovery steps can make data recovery more difficult.

The laptop is receiving power, but the lack of any image or cursor suggests this may be a display, firmware, or hardware problem rather than Windows simply being stuck. Try a full power reset: disconnect the charger, hold the power button for 30–60 seconds, reconnect the charger, and start it again. If possible, test it with an external monitor or TV. Also try entering the BIOS or boot menu immediately after powering on; if even those screens never appear, the Windows update may not be the only issue and the laptop may need professional diagnosis.
