My RTX 3090 Founders Edition uses NVIDIA's proprietary 12-pin connector and came with an adapter that converts it to two standard PCIe 8-pin plugs. My Corsair RM1000x SHIFT uses Type 5 modular connectors, which look smaller than the connectors on the GPU adapter. Can I safely use this power supply with the 3090, and do I need a special cable or adapter?

Yes, you can use that PSU. Connect two of the RM1000x SHIFT’s Type 5 PCIe cables to the two 8-pin sockets on the 3090’s included adapter, then plug the 12-pin end into the graphics card. The smaller Type 5 connector is for the power-supply side; the GPU-side connector should be the normal PCIe 6+2 plug. Use separate PCIe cables rather than relying on one daisy-chained cable.
You don’t need to replace the power supply, but make sure the cables are specifically Corsair Type 5 PCIe cables for the RM1000x SHIFT. Do not force older Type 4 modular cables into the PSU, and don’t mix modular cables from another power supply. The RM1000x has more than enough wattage for a 3090.

The 3090 Founders Edition does not use the newer 12V-2x6 cable directly. Use the included 12-pin-to-dual-8-pin adapter with two compatible Type 5 PCIe cables instead.
