I can buy an Intel Arc A580 for about £240. It has 8GB of VRAM, and I'm wondering whether it's a reliable choice for 1080p gaming or if I should spend a little more on a newer card. I'm mainly concerned about performance, driver support, and whether Intel GPUs work consistently with newer games.

Intel Arc cards can be perfectly usable for 1080p, but they’re less predictable than the established alternatives. Most current games should be fine with updated drivers, though occasional releases may have missing or poor support at launch. I’d choose the A580 only if it’s noticeably cheaper than a B570 or B580; otherwise, the newer card is the safer buy.
At £240, I’d look closely at the newer Arc B-series cards first. The B580 has 12GB of VRAM and a newer architecture, so if you can find one for around £264, the extra £24 would be well spent. Intel’s drivers have improved a lot, but some newer games still launch without proper Intel support, which can mean waiting for a driver update or a developer fix.
The B570 is another option if it’s only about £60 more than the A580. You’d get a newer design and 10GB of VRAM, which should give it better longevity. The A580 can handle 1080p, but at £240 it doesn’t seem like a particularly strong deal unless the newer cards are unavailable.

The newer B580 prices seem to vary a lot here. Some listings are around £300 or more, so the A580 could still make sense if the cheaper B580 deals aren’t available.
