Is 6000 MT/s EXPO unstable on the Ryzen 7 5000X3D?

I'm using a Ryzen 7 5000X3D with a 2x16GB DDR5-6000 kit. When I enable EXPO, the system eventually reboots after a few hours of gaming. I've updated the BIOS, tried increasing memory voltage, and tested another RAM brand, but the crashes continue until EXPO is disabled. I've heard that some chips may not run DDR5-6000 reliably and need to be reduced to 5800 or lower. Has anyone with this CPU and similar memory experienced the same issue?

Memory type can make a difference with a weaker memory controller. I’ve seen Samsung-based DDR5-6000 kits fail at EXPO while Hynix-based kits ran at the same rated speed without problems. In one comparison, 6000 CL36 Samsung kits were only stable at 5600, while a 64GB 6000 CL32 Hynix kit worked at its EXPO setting. That suggests the issue may be the combination of the CPU’s memory controller and the specific memory ICs, not necessarily defective RAM.

Some CPUs simply have weaker memory controllers and won’t run DDR5-6000 reliably, regardless of the memory kit. Try enabling EXPO and then manually lowering the speed to 5600 or 5800. If that fixes the reboots, the lower setting is probably the practical limit of that particular chip.

Run a full memory test, such as MemTest86, from a bootable USB while the RAM is still configured with EXPO. Let it complete several passes, ideally overnight. If it passes, faulty RAM or poor motherboard contact becomes less likely, and you can investigate other causes such as CPU, power, or temperatures.

Another practical approach is to reduce the memory speed in small steps, such as 100 MT/s at a time, until the crashes stop.
