I'm considering a new gaming PC with a Ryzen 9850X3D, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and an RTX 5080. I'd like it to last for upcoming games such as GTA, The Witcher 4, and the next Kingdom Come: Deliverance-style titles. However, I currently have a Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB of RAM, and a Radeon RX 6600. Would it make more sense to upgrade only the graphics card for now, or is building a completely new system worthwhile? Prices seem unusually high, but they may continue rising, so I'm mainly wondering how future-proof this proposed build would be.

There isn’t really a perfect time to build right now. New hardware could become cheaper eventually, but prices may also rise further in the near term. If you can afford the system and actually want it, buying now is reasonable; just don’t expect any PC to be truly future-proof.
Your current Ryzen 5 5600X and 32GB of RAM are still usable, especially at 1440p. The RX 6600 is the part most likely to limit performance, so upgrading the graphics card first could give you a noticeable improvement without replacing the entire platform. Check the actual requirements and performance targets for the games you care about before deciding.
At 1440p with 32GB of memory, the system should be fine for a while. A newer GPU is probably the most sensible next step unless you’re also aiming for very high refresh rates or demanding CPU-heavy games.
High-end parts such as a 9850X3D and RTX 5080 should provide excellent performance for several years, but no combination can guarantee that every future game will run at maximum settings. Consider whether you need that level of performance today rather than buying purely for future-proofing.
A good alternative is to look for discounted components or a carefully chosen used system. The new-build market is expensive, but worthwhile deals still appear if you’re patient.
If your current PC is already performing acceptably, waiting is perfectly defensible. If it is preventing you from enjoying the games you play and the money is available, build now. Prices and release schedules are unpredictable, so there is no guaranteed upcoming point when everything will suddenly become cheaper.

The most important factor is your budget and how long you plan to keep the system. Waiting only makes sense if your current PC is still meeting your needs.
