Will an i9-9900KF Work Properly in an H310M PRO-VH Motherboard?

I'm currently using an i5-9400F to verify that my other components are working. When I replace it with an i9-9900KF, the computer boots but freezes at the Windows loading screen while the dots are spinning. The motherboard BIOS has not been updated yet. Could the issue be an outdated BIOS, a defective processor, or the motherboard's power delivery being unable to handle the i9? Would underclocking help? I don't have another compatible motherboard available to test the CPU.

A completely dead CPU usually would not boot at all, so the fact that it reaches Windows does not immediately point to a dead chip. Still, the processor could be degraded, especially if it was previously overvolted or heavily overclocked. Test it in a suitable board after updating the BIOS before drawing conclusions.

Update the BIOS using the i5-9400F installed, then try the i9 again. The 9900KF may require a newer BIOS version before it is fully supported, so this is the first troubleshooting step.

That makes sense. I’ll wait until I have the other motherboard available and hope the processor itself is still fine.

That board is a very weak match for an i9-9900KF. Its VRMs have no heatsinks and are designed more for lower-power processors, while the 9900KF can draw substantially more power. It may POST but throttle, become unstable, or hang under load. Underclocking or limiting power could reduce the strain, but it isn’t an ideal long-term setup.
