Is a 650W Corsair CX PSU enough for an RTX 5070 Ti?

I currently have an RTX 3050 8GB and want to upgrade. I first considered an RX 9060 XT 16GB, but I found a used MSI RTX 5070 Ti Vanguard for €450. My concern is whether my Corsair CX650W power supply can handle it. The rest of my system includes an Intel Core i7-12700F and 16GB of DDR4 memory. Would the existing PSU be safe, or should I replace it with a 750W or 850W model?

Some testing lists a 650W minimum, so a healthy power supply might technically run this setup. However, check the exact Vanguard model carefully: it may need three 8-pin PCIe connectors or a compatible 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 connection. Since the CX650 is an older, entry-level unit and the card has significant transient demands, I wouldn’t consider it a good long-term pairing.

I’d budget for a quality 750W or 850W replacement instead of taking the risk. Choose a well-reviewed unit from a reliable range by brands such as Corsair, be quiet!, Seasonic, Super Flower, or MSI, and make sure it includes the correct native GPU cable. Also be cautious with that €450 listing—verify the card works properly, includes the required accessories, and isn’t simply too good to be true.

The low price doesn’t automatically mean it’s fraudulent since the card is used, but I’d test it in person if possible. A power supply upgrade is still worthwhile here, especially if your current unit lacks enough separate PCIe cables.

I’d replace the CX650 before installing a 5070 Ti. The card is commonly paired with at least a 750W supply, and an 850W modern unit would give you more headroom for power spikes and future upgrades. Look for a reputable ATX 3.0 or 3.1 model with a native 12V-2x6 cable rather than relying on adapters. Your i7-12700F isn’t extreme, but the GPU can still draw over 300W.
