I'm considering starting to stream iRacing but I'm not sure what hardware or software I actually need. My current system has a Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB of DDR4 memory, an RTX 2070 Super, and a 650W power supply. I'm working with a tight budget, so I'd like to start with the most practical upgrades and improve the setup gradually. Should I upgrade to an 8-core or 12-core CPU, and what software or capture hardware would be useful?

Use OBS with the GPU’s NVENC encoder and see how the stream runs before buying anything. That’s generally enough for a single-PC iRacing setup. If you later run into dropped frames or game performance issues, moving from the Ryzen 5 2600 to an 8-core chip such as the 5700X or 5800X, along with 32GB of RAM, would be a sensible budget upgrade. A 12-core processor and capture card would be unnecessary for getting started.
You may not need a CPU upgrade right away. The RTX 2070 Super has Nvidia’s NVENC encoder, which can handle the stream through OBS while you play iRacing. Start with OBS and test your performance first; a capture card usually isn’t needed unless you’re doing something more specialized or streaming from another device.
If you do upgrade on the current platform, a Ryzen 7 5700X or 5800X would be a big step up from the 2600 without requiring a new motherboard and memory. An extra 16GB of RAM would also help, especially if you keep other programs open while streaming. Check that your motherboard BIOS supports the CPU, and make sure your cooler and power supply are suitable. You probably don’t need 12 cores for gaming and streaming.
Would a regular 5800X be good enough, or is it worth waiting for a reasonably priced 5800X3D?

Would an 8-core processor be a worthwhile upgrade if I notice performance problems, or should I focus on other parts first?
