I deleted an iMessage conversation in 2024 and would like to read it again. Apple says deleted messages are only recoverable for roughly 30–40 days, but I'm wondering whether there are any other options, such as old device backups, computer backups, or data-recovery services. I've heard of deleted files being recovered from physical storage long after deletion, so I'm trying to understand whether anything similar is possible with iMessages.

The only realistic possibility is an older backup made before the conversation was deleted. Check whether you have an archived iPhone backup on a Mac or PC, or an old device backup stored through your backup system. Without a pre-deletion backup, recovery is very unlikely.
File recovery examples from USB drives don’t translate well to cloud-synced messaging. Deleted iMessages may be encrypted, overwritten, or removed from the relevant databases, and Apple generally can’t retrieve them after the recovery period. So unless an old backup contains the chat, the practical answer is no.
